Healthy Living Tips and Tricks

Friday, May 29th, 2009
Stephen Dolan asked:

It seems that everyone is concerned with healthy living these days. This is a good thing; it is important to be concerned with your health and to look for better strategies to improve your life. On the other hand, it also seems like everyone has a quick solution for healthy living, for a hefty fee of course. It seems at times that you can’t turn on the television or open a magazine without seeing a celebrity or doctor trying to get you to buy their new book detailing the latest miracle diet that will change your life, whether it is fresh ground wheat grass or a daily tin of Brazil nuts. The reality is that these diets are unnecessary. Healthy living is available to everyone, and does not depend on buying the latest diet book or the most expensive vitamins. All that you need to do is to start making healthy decisions.

How to eat healthy

The most important facet of your life that you need to change as you move towards healthy living is to start eating nutritious foods. Do not try to follow a trendy diet, just eat a balanced diet of nutritious foods. When you eat well, you lower your risk of many health problems such as obesity, type 2 diabetes, heart disease, certain kinds of cancer and osteoporosis. You will also give yourself more energy, allowing you to enjoy life again.

The most important group of foods, and the one that is most often the cause of poor diets, is fruit and vegetables. There is nothing particularly innovative about this advice; everyone knows that you need to eat your fruit and vegetables. The main problem is that so few people actually consume the seven to ten daily servings of fruits and vegetables they are supposed to have each day. And when they do eat fruit and vegetables, it is in forms that include added sugar, salt or fat.

The food group that we all eat too much of is meat. Try to limit your meat intake, and emphasize meat alternatives for your protein needs. While you definitely need meat or an alternative for the protein, most people eat far too much from this food group. You will be surprised at how little is actually required to get you through the day.

Get active

Once you have started eating well, it is time to go out and get some physical activity! Now, this does not mean that you have to incorporate a rigorous physical workout into your daily routine. Just including small amounts of physical activity in your life will make a difference. So take the stairs instead of the escalator, or walk to the corner store instead of driving four blocks. Start slowly and incorporate more physical activity into your life, and you will be amazed at how quickly the results will add up.

Have fun

The final component of healthy living is to have a healthy mind. Build up a strong peer group who will give you the social support you need to be truly happy. This will reduce your stress, which will only lead to a healthier body.

The Benefits of Stress Management and Healthy Living

Wednesday, May 27th, 2009
Joe Golson asked:

o Staying Healthy and Loving Life is to manage stress. The benefits of Stress Management and Healthy Living is a longer life. I’m sure you know that nutrition deficiencies can be caused by too much stress in your life.

There are lots of factors that this can be attributed to.

First, everything nowadays seems to be happening so fast. People feel like if they will not do anything in order to keep up with the pace of the world that they live in, life may be tougher in the long run. But,if you Practice Managing Stress and Staying Healthy you’ll live longer.

Simplicity is Beauty

Does anybody still believe in the meaning of this old saying? If you want to maintain a balanced and healthy lifestyle, you must first understand what you can and cannot do. You cannot keep on acquiring things that you cannot even afford. You cannot venture into various adventures that you may not even have time for or your health must not risk doing.

There are things that can spice up your life even if you keep on living by your means and according to what you can only afford. You just have to be creative and share your passion and dreams to the people whom you care about. This way, you are maintaining a healthy attitude and likewise, you are not risking your health unto any untoward scenes.

If you are concerned about stress and how it may affect your health in the long run, here are some activities that you must look deeply into. If you are guilty of doing the following, maybe it is time for you to think things over and start on the activities that will make you more productive but at the same time healthy.

1. If you are stressed out, your way of coping is to resort to the wrong foods. You tend to eat treats with high levels of fat, salt and sugar. This is caused when the levels if your cortisol or your stress hormone increase. Other people tend to gulp a whole gallon of ice cream after a stressful day. Imagine what it can do to your body in the long run. You may want to rethink things and consider the harmful effects of these activities before resorting to them.

2. Stressed out people also resort to coffee to increase their energy level. This may be a good morning starter. But if you become too much addicted to caffeine, this will cause your health trouble in the long run. You must not depend on coffee to keep you alert throughout the day. When a minute-long walk or a quick exercise can do the trick, then do such before you start going for another refill of your caffeine addiction.

3. Another thing that happens more often when a person is stressed out is that they skip the important meals. They do their best in order to keep up with a deadline and finish all their task. But they no longer think about their own health in the process. Such bad behavior will take its toll on your body as you get older. This may cause more problems in the end. It will be better if you will learn to finish your tasks but be mindful of eating the right meals in between.

This way, you are loving life and loving your obligations at the same time. And both may prove to be rewarding in the process.

5 Tips for Healthy Living

Tuesday, May 26th, 2009
Adella Klein asked:

Feel like you don’t have as much energy as you used to?  Stressed out about things that happen both at work and in your personal life? Want to lose the five extra pounds that have taken up residence on your hips? If you answered yes to any of these questions, you may need a lesson in healthy living.

The average person spends two thirds of their life either at work, working at home or thinking about work. The majority of the remaining time is spent sleeping. So what can you do in your waking hours to make sure you’re living the healthiest lifestyle possible? We have the answers:

1. Eliminate Stress. Eliminating undue stress can be one of the hardest things to accomplish in your daily routine. On the other hand, it also has the biggest impact on your life. Ever heard the saying ‘don’t sweat the small stuff’? It’s time to put those words into action. And if you still can’t beat the blues, try lighting some candles and taking a bath, planning a day at the health spa, working out or reading a book. These are all known to be effective measures in relieving stress.

2. Quit Smoking. If you’ve taken up the not-so-flattering (not to mention, unhealthy) habit of smoking, we strongly urge you to try quitting. And while we realize that doing so may up your stress levels for a short period of time, the long term effects on your health will be worth it in the end.

3. Eat Healthy. Maintaining a healthy, balanced diet will work wonders for your health and will improve your overall energy. Eating green vegetables, fruit and the appropriate portions of meat and dairy combined with drinking lots of water and milk (to strengthen bones) will not only help you lose those extra pounds but will make you feel like a million bucks as well.

4. Exercise. Working out on a consistent basis will also make you look and feel better. Exercising (whether it’s at a gym or in your home) will increase energy, relieve stress and leave you looking damn good. Who’s going to say no to that?

5.  Stay Informed. Health education is a great way to learn about new ways to stay healthy. Watching health channels on television (preferably while running on a treadmill) or reading a health magazine (you know, to relieve some stress) will help make sure you know what’s going on in the industry.

Now that you know the plan, it’s time to put it in action. Good luck – and stay healthy!
